Stoke 2008 Grading Questions

Shodan.

Please answer 2 of the following four questions using between half and a full side of A4 paper per question.

1. Write about Uchikomi-geiko
2. Describe your relationship to your Sensei.
3. Describe the 1st form in Nihon Kendo no Kata.
4. What do you understand by the term ki-ken-tai-ichi.

Nidan.

Please answer 2 of the following four questions using between half and a full side of A4 paper per question.

1. Explain why Kakari-geiko is important.
2. Describe and explain two types of Shikake-waza in Kendo.
3. Describe the Third form in Nihon Kendo no Kata and highlight areas that require particular attention.
4. Write about moku-so.

Sandan

Please answer 2 of the following four questions using between half and a full side of A4 paper per question.

1. Explain the role of motodachi
2. Describe and give an example of: sen sen no sen.
3. Describe the Seventh form in Nihon Kendo no Kata and highlight areas that require particular attention.
4. Write about Fumikomi -ashi

Yondan.

Please answer 1 of the first three questions using between half and a full side of A4 paper per question. Question 4 (refereeing) is compulsory for all candidates.

1. Discuss: hikitate-keiko and its merits
2.Describe the opportunities to attack using Debana -waza
3. Describe the Second Kodachi form in Nihon Kendo no Kata and highlight areas that require particular attention.
4.Explain the purpose of ‘Shinpan’ what your understanding is of the basic movements: flag indications, verbal commands. Also discuss the synchronisation of movements and importance of this relationship between the Shushin and Fukushin throughout the Kendo match.
