Latest Press Releases 24/02/07 Maggie's Centres Kendo Workshop We have now achieved the workshop on 24th Feb without any major injuries and would like to thank all of you who sponsored and supported the event. The below names listed made 21,126 cuts in an overall total by doing 1006 kirikaeshi, this means a great deal to us as much as the collected donation means to the Maggie's centres, which has now exceeded double of our target. The online site will continue to collect until 24th April so if you haven't made a donation and would like to do so please visit the link below. I would like to organise this event again next year at a different venue perhaps in London to celebrate their new building now being built at the Charing Cross Hospital. Participants: For donation until 24th April: Kazuyo Matsuda 05/02/07 First Macmillan Cancer Support Taikai (Competition) Raises £488 London, 5th February 2007: South coast based practitioners of the Japanese martial art of kendo (fencing) held a competition on Saturday, 3rd February at the St. Lukes Community Centre, Portsmouth, in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support. The competition was organised jointly by the Southampton and Portsmouth kendo clubs, with the support of the British Kendo Association and raised £488 for the charity. The results were : 1st Stuart Gibson (UCL Kendo Club) Fighting Spirit: Neil Sharp (UCL Kendo Club) Commenting on the competition, Phil McLaughlin, leader of the Southampton Kendo Club, said: "This is the first year of what we hope will become an annual competition. We are delighted that the proceeds will be going to such a worthy charity and hope to attract even more participants from across the country in the future."
