BRITISH KENDO ASSOCIATION CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

It is fast becoming a requirement that all public funded sports organisations have a Child Protection Policy, in order to help create safer environments for children – where they can enjoy and get the very best from their involvement in sport.

(A quote from a written statement by the Minister of Sport:

‘Sport plays a major part in the life of many children and families. It provides the opportunity for children to develop personally, socially, emotionally and physically. For some children and young people sport is a recreational activity, for others there is also the chance to participate in their sport at the highest level.Whatever the level of involvement it is important that everyone involved has confidence that sport is working together to safeguard children and young people from harm……………None of us can ignore the important issue of abuse within sport or our responsibility to ensure we adopt the highest possible standards of child protection’………….)

As an internationally recognised sports organisation, the British Kendo Association will take a united stance in support of the promotion of ‘Good Practice in the Presence of Children’ – and hopefully develop child protection knowledge and skills amongst leaders and members alike. Our Child Protection Policy is now being distributed to every dojo in the United Kingdom and should be implemented on receipt.
