CRB(CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU)In the year 2008/09 the BKA is asking that all dojo leaders, all
coaches and all dojo child protection officers aim to complete CRB
checks. By 2009 it is intended that to register your Dojo/Club and
obtain BKA insurance cover you will need to have qualified Coaches
with CRB documents of disclosure and First Aiders in place if your dojo has junior members or vulnerable adults at risk attending with or without parents or carers. Also if you are likely to be involved in the teaching/coaching at BKA events or when covering for other coaches at clubs/dojo where there may be such members present. What is CRB? The Criminal Records Bureau is an Executive Agency of the Home Office and provides access to criminal record information through its disclosure service. Why do we need it? It is important that people who are unsuitable for certain tasks involving children and vulnerable adults are identified. The BKA also has a particular need in view of the likely legislation concerning carrying swords How do we achieve a CRB check? The BKA are pleased to announce the appointment of DDC (Due Diligence Checking) as our official Umbrella Body for the Criminal Records Bureau, for the obtaining of disclosures for BKA registered coaches. To use this facility, please contact Leigh-Anne Law via email at child.protection@kendo.org.uk giving the following information: Name Your details will be submitted to DDC on your behalf, then an application form and information pack will be sent to you. The completed application form, together with appropriate ID and payment, must be returned to DDC (who will return your documents via registered post). The process will not be completed without payment, which is currently £18.80. Once the CRB check has been completed, certification will be sent to the applicant. In the case of ‘nothing to disclose’, when your certificate is received the process is complete, and there is no need to send your certificate to us for validation. The BKA will not keep any photocopy or other image of the Disclosure or any copy or representation of the contents, however, not withstanding the above, a record of the date of issue of a Disclosure, the name of the subject, the type of Disclosure, the position for which the Disclosure was requested, the unique reference number and the details of the recruitment decision taken will be kept. Also should any reason arise where it is necessary for the Disclosure to be viewed again, then such a request shall not deemed as unreasonable and any significant information will be sent to the executive committee for their consideration. Existing CRB disclosure documents The BKA will accept an existing CRB check, providing that the document was issued within a reasonable time. These will be subject to the same requirements – i.e. the original document must be sent to the child protection officer for validation. Contact A postal address will be supplied in due course, but email contact is now available: child.protection@kendo.org.uk. |
