Edinburgh Sport Relief Mile
On an overcast, but dry afternoon in Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh a group of 5 eager Kendoka fro Edinburgh Kendo Club prepared themselves for the biggest kendo event of the year, to run the Sports Relief Mile.
Over 3000 enthusiastic runners prepared themselves to take part in this event but there was only one group that was getting all the stares. Yes that was us, fully clad in armour, complete with Shinai we were one of the most interesting groups running. After posing for several photographs and a quick limbering warm up we were on our way.
I think the main challenge for us was not running a mile in full armour, but to hold back the urge to attack the other runners with out Shinai.
We drew even more attention as we finished off the last section of the mile in military fashion with the kiai to match.
This is a fun and easy way to raise money for charity and I would recommend it to all kendoka to get involved in the next one. So far we have raised £630 for Sports Relief, if you would like to see what the money is used for please visit the following site.
