RAF CRANWELL - KENDO

The latest dojo to register with the BKA comes from an unusual source, namely the Royal Air Force. When they are not flying, or supporting aircraft, these members of the RAF do what we all do – Kendo!

Last year Donald Gordon, BKA Health & Safety Adviser, was approached by Flt Lt Alun Pepper, who is a Tornado Navigator and invited to start a Royal Air Force club.
Donald said, ‘we have a challenge, in that our members are sent off to other parts of the world at short notice (hence some missing faces). This is part of the job and it has not deterred us. We have received strong support from the BKA and are presently formally registering with the BKA.’
Ric Schofield, BKA secretary, who has also agreed to coach said, ‘everyone is very keen and we are moving forward very steadily. Kendo training takes place at RAF Cranwell, one day each month – but not this March - as the team will be in training at the annual, one week, Army seminar.’

Flt Lt Alun Pepper, who set the ball rolling said, ’we are looking for RAF personnel to join us – especially if you are already practicing Kendo. If you would like to join or have any questions, you can contact me via the RAF Martial Arts website .’
